When McKinney's bulk trash pickup isn't enough

McKinney's bulk trash pickup (the city calls it bulky item collection) is a good deal for what it covers. It's free for city trash customers, up to 12 times a year. But it comes with rules:

You book online by noon the business day before your pickup day.
One pile, no bigger than 3.5 ft tall, 3 ft deep and 9 ft long, or two large pieces of furniture.
No remodel or construction debris, fence panels, pallets, tires or trash bags.
No brush, limbs or bagged yard waste.
Fridges, freezers and AC units only with proof the Freon was removed.
Rental homes don't qualify. The city counts them as commercial.

How we handle what we haul

Nothing gets dumped on a back road. Here are your options, and what happens to the rest.

Donations, to the place you choose

Got a dresser or a dining set that still has life in it? Point it out and tell us where you'd like it to go, whether that's your church, a thrift store or a charity you like. We drop it off and text you the donation receipt.

Everything else, to the Melissa landfill

The rest goes to the 121 Regional Disposal Facility in Melissa, just northeast of McKinney. It's the landfill we use: it's clean, the rates are fair and it's right on our way home.

Looking for the McKinney dump?

McKinney doesn't have a landfill of its own. The closest is the 121 Regional Disposal Facility at 3820 Sam Rayburn Hwy in Melissa. It's open Monday to Friday 7 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 3, charges $52 a ton with a one-ton minimum, and takes cards only. McKinney residents also get two free drop-offs a month at the water district's convenience centers with a utility bill.

Before you book

How does it work, start to finish?

Text us a few photos of what's going and the address. We text back a price and an arrival window. Same day is often possible, and there's no cutoff for same-day requests. On the day, you'll get a text when we're about 30 minutes out. When we get there, you point at what goes and we take apart, carry out and load everything, then sweep up. Before we leave, we text you photos of the cleared space, and you pay once you're happy with it.

How do I get a price, and can it change on the day?

Text a photo or two to 903-449-5262 and we'll text back a price. That price holds when we show up. Some companies quote low over the phone and add to it once they're in your driveway; we don't. It only changes if there's more, or something different, than the photos showed. No fuel charge, and no deposit to book.

Do I need to be home?

No. Give us a gate or garage code, or tell us where the stuff is. When we're done, we send you photos of the cleared space, and you pay afterward by card, Zelle, Apple Pay, Cash App, check or cash.

Will you take things apart and carry them out?

Yes. Bed frames, bunk beds, swing sets, sheds and anything else that won't fit through the door in one piece, we take apart on the spot. Upstairs, in the attic or out by the back fence, we carry it all out ourselves. Taking things apart is priced for the extra labor, so if you'd rather do that part yourself, you'll pay less.

Do you give discounts?

Yes, in a few ways. Big jobs, like a whole house that needs two or more trailers, are priced in person, and the more there is, the better the rate. Landlords, property managers and businesses who use us regularly usually save 20% or more on every job. And if you send a friend our way, we'll thank you with a gift card.

Is there anything you won't take?

Only big drums of chemicals. Paint, tires and batteries are fine, but they cost a little extra because the landfill charges us for them. Not sure about something? Send a photo and ask.

What if something gets damaged?

We're licensed and insured, and we take care with floors, walls and door frames on the way out. If we ever do damage something, we take responsibility for it.
